Hawzah News Agency- Al-Husayn ibn Abd Allah ibn Sa’id al-Askari narrated from Muhammad ibn Hamdan al-Qushayri who narrated from al-Mughirah ibn Muhammad ibn al-Muhallab, from his father, from Abd Allah ibn Dawud, from Fudayl ibn Marzuq, from Atiyyah al-Awfi, from Abu Sa’id al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh and his family) said:
إِنِّی تَارِکٌ فِیکُمْ أَمْرَیْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا أَطْوَلُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ کِتَابُ اللَّهِ حَبْلٌ مَمْدُودٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَی الْأَرْضِ وَ عِتْرَتِی أَلَا وَ إِنَّهُمَا لَنْ یَفْتَرِقَا حَتَّی یَرِدَا عَلَیَّ الْحَوْضَ
فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِی سَعِیدٍ مَنْ عِتْرَتُهُ قَالَ أَهْلُ بَیْتِهِ.
“I am leaving among you two things, one of which is greater than the other:
1. The Book of Allah, an extended rope from the heaven to the earth, and
2. My progeny;
Behold, they will never separate until they meet me at the Pond(1).”
So I said to Abu Sa’id: “Who are his progeny?”
He replied: “His Household (Ahlul-Bayt).”
(1)Note: “At the Pond” refers to the Pond of Kawthar in Paradise.
